NHS Long Term Plan Refugee and Asylum Seekers Women's Focus Group

As part of our engagement work on the NHS Long Term plan we wanted to make sure we reached as many residents as possible to ensure that their voices were heard. We know that the voices of Refugees and Asylum Seekers are very often missed and we wanted to give them the opportunity to have their say.

We worked with Barnsley Refugee Council and attended a women's group run by them. The group utilise their skills to make craft items which they then use in parades and community events. The hub also has access to food and clothing.

We worked with six ladies who's first language is Urdu and an interpreter. the ladies were able to share their experiences of attending hospital and GP appointments. Many of them found this difficult to do alone and often were not given access to an interpreter instead having to use a family member to relay information.

Find out more about what the ladies had to say by download a copy of our report.
